Families First Coronavirus Response Act Communication Proposal

Date: April 16, 2020

Greetings Irene.
Thank you for this opportunity to showcase the work I could do to assist your efforts to inform the public about the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Let me know if you have any questions or need additional clarifications.
Best,
Barb Luhring

Project Description: Creation of  consistent communication tools to provide families and individuals accurate information concerning Families First Coronavirus Response Act benefits for families, individuals and communities

Proposal by: Barb Luhring, We Draw Ideas

The Coronavirus pandemic has created chaos and confusion across the world. Recent legislation in Congress is seeking to assist our communities during this challenging time. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act requires certain employers to provide employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19.

The proposal I’ve created addresses how we can quickly, consistently and most cost effectively communicate the opportunities and benefits of the Act to our communities.

The focus of my efforts is to use storytelling to engage, explain and move people to utilize the benefits created for them in the Act.

I propose we create a Tool Box of solutions that meet people where they are. This would include:
• 4 distinct stories of individuals and how the Act will help them
• A 3 panel graphic novelization of each story for social sharing (samples here)
• A downloadable PDF of all 4 stories for sharing
• A podcast audio of each story for social sharing (samples here)

Also, all content could be translated into appropriate languages.

In addition to being shared on social media, the content can be easily distributed via email. Posters can also be posted in businesses deemed essential.

All content will feature diverse illustrations of families and individuals.

Other Graphic Illustrations

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, tech leader Demetria Menard offered a presentation on agile workplaces, inclusion and more at Findorff headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. Her words lit up the audience and my graphic recording preserved an important takeaway message. Here is a snippet of  the entire 3′ x 6′ drawing.

On Wednesday morning, November 7, 2018 at Monona Terrace, Kelly Fitzsimmons used her own story to give budding entrepreneurs a pathway from failure to success and everything in between. She did not hold back and her audience was better for it. Following her keynote, my graphic recording captured some of the significant messages from her presentation. Here is a snippet of  the entire 3′ x 6′ drawing.

Noodles & Company founder Aaron Kennedy shared his story of success, struggle and pivoting when pivoting needs to happen at Wisconsin Technology Council’s #ESSWi conference on November 8, 2018 at Monona Terrace in Madison.  I created a graphic recording of his keynote in pastel and black Sharpie. Here is a snippet of  the entire 3′ x 6′ drawing.
